Camp Ramapo was founded in 1922 and is now in its 91st year of operations.
Rhinebeck, NY. It’s about two hours north of New York City.
All children want to succeed – to learn, to have friends, to gain skills, to maintain healthy relationships. Ramapo for Children helps children who have had difficulty in the past achieving those goals align their behavior to those aspirations.
Camp Ramapo works with children with special needs – those with social, emotional and learning challenges, and offers a traditional camp program with an emphasis on skill development.
Camp Ramapo offers a full range of traditional camp activities – swimming (in both our lake and pool), boating, high and low ropes courses, all sports activities, arts and crafts activities, gardening, animal care. Our activities are what you may expect at any sleep-away camp, but the difference here is that there is more structure and more staff attention and supervision than a mainstream camp offers.
Children can stay anywhere from one to nine weeks.
Camp Ramapo has a one-to-one staff to camper ratio. Staff are recruited from all over the country and many are college students studying psychology, special education and social work. In addition to state-of-the-art training and hands-on experience, Ramapo offers a nine credit fieldwork college course for the staff while working at camp.
Camp Ramapo is designed to address the needs of campers on an individual basis. Our trained staff meet children at their level and move them on a path to success, building their social and independence skills along the way.
Enrollment is on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Earlier is always better, so in the fall or winter.
