The City of Prescott is officially bidding to host the Arizona Cardinals annual preseason training camp. With this efforts the city would be competing with the other Arixona cities and towns to host the famous Summer Camp.

Prescott’s plans were officially announced on Friday that the Prescott Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the City of Prescott and the Town of Prescott Valley would host the cardinal camp in 2013.

The bidding gains prominence as the team’s three-year contract with Northern Arizona University (NAU) ended this August. While the Prescott team would like to retain the franchise, the NAU is inviting bidding from cities across Arizona interested in hosting the summer training.

David Maurer, Prescott Chamber CEO, in a news release, is quoted as, “Our goal is to provide a new, permanent summer home for the Cardinals as part of a sports complex that would offer nearly year-round opportunities for youth and amateur sports events and camps. Until the sports complex is built, Embry-Riddle would house the training camp for at least one year.”

The bidding came as a surprise as the Prescott team sent in their bid just minutes before the deadline of 5pm on Friday. The winning bid is likely to be considered around the end of the season , when Super Bowl XLVII concludes around February 03.
