For parents and children who dig for something new and exciting each summer, a traditional summer camp with routine activities just won’t do. This summer, help your children have new, unforgettable experiences by sending them away to dig history at the Alexandria Archeology Summer Camp.

And no, by that we don’t mean a history camp, but an archaeological camp where young campers will learn all about professional excavating, recording, and artifact-processing methods as they help uncover the Alexandria’s buried past while protecting historical resources.

Camp Navigator team has learned that this summer, the campers, city archaeologists and a generous staff of volunteers are headed for the Fort Ward Historical Park (4301 Braddock Road) in Alexandria. A former African American neighborhood, located near the Civil War fort, here campers will dig the northern area of the fort, with an eye to make new discoveries on the structures and the people who inhabited the area.

Open to children aged between 12 through 15, the one-week session, that will run from July 15 through July 19 from 9 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. daily.

Parents will have to shell out $400 per session. Children can also avail scholarships. It’s only restricted to 15 campers per session, and a non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to hold a slot.
