Wolf Camp, a nature-oriented Washington State summer camp founded in 1997, has teamed up with like-named Wolf Haven, Int’l to provide very specialized camps during the week of July 10-15, 2011. Wolf Haven is a wolf sanctuary located near the state capitol in Olympia, and it houses several dozen rescued wolves.
Wolf Haven may be best known for its wolves, but a fascinating aspect of their work has been the restoration of endangered “mima mound” prairies located on its 10 acre property. Their wide array of environmental work was the inspiration for two camp themes that Wolf Camp will run on the Wolf Haven property this summer:
• Wolves & Ravens – Predators & Prey is a wildlife tracking camp that investigates the animal kingdom through the expertise of real trackers, including Wolf Camp founder and director Chris Chisholm.
• Mystery of the Mima Mounds is a “geo-botany adventure” that investigates the plants and geology of the Mima Mounds, which are unexplained, evenly-spaced mounds found in just a few spots around the world, including on the Wolf Haven property.
The deadline for registering for Wolf Camp is June 5th, and space remains available for ages 9-12 and 13-16. Pick-up and drop-off at SeaTac Int’l Airport is also available. Check out www.WolfCamp.com/youthcamps/resindex.html#05 for all the details.
