North Dakota Farmers Union Camp was started in 1934.
Our main camp location is at Heart Butte on Lake Tschida south of Elgin. All of our senior camps for grades 7-12 are held there. Our junior camps for grades 3-6 are held at Heart Butte and around the state at other sites that we rent.
To develop visionary rural leaders through interactive programs that facilitate commitment, teamwork, creativity, leadership and citizenship, through cooperation, legislation and education.
Our camp is a leadership camp, we specialize in teaching youth to grow as leaders at camp to take those skills back to their schools and community.
Youth participate in an education project, water activities, sports, games and they own and operate their own cooperative store.
Junior camps are $75 for a 4 day, 3 night camp for grades 3-6. Senior camps are $125 for a 5 day, 4 night camp for grades 7-12. Campers must also be a member of North Dakota Farmers Union and a family membership is $30 a year.
This year we have 16 counselors, 2 cooks and a caretaker. We recruit staff by contacting youth who have grown up in the program, through colleges and our different partnerships.
Parents should send their kids to our camp because we offer a unique camping experience that allows every youth to be themselves and each camper can shine since we don’t specialize in one skill.
Camp registration opens March 1st. We accept registrations until all camps are full or completed.
Our camp is just part of our youth program. By attending camp and our county sponsored day classes, youth can earn great awards and trips.
Parents can go on our website, ndfu.org, at any time to download a registration form. Our business hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 am through 5:00 pm.
