In 1922, a girls’ camp called Weyou-Wega started at our present location. In 1946 the camp became a boys camp. In 1970 it became a coed camp. Today Wekeela attracts campers and staff from 22 US states and 16 countries.
Wekeela is located on a mountain lake setting on Little Bear Pond, in Hartford, Maine.
Camp Wekeela strives to empower young people to be well-rounded individuals with the character and skills to succeed in life. We seek to foster a community of thoughtful, responsible, capable and confident campers, from across the country and around the globe. To achieve this mission, Wekeela endeavors to provide: A non-threatening, supportive camp environment. Staff members who exemplify responsibility, compassion and humility. Individual learning that builds confidence and self-esteem through the development of life-long skills. Group competition and challenges that encourage cooperation and reliance on others.
Our hope is to make memories for campers that will last a lifetime.
We offer a wide range of programming. It includes watersports, land sports, tennis, waterskiing, outdoor adventure, creative, performing and culinary arts. We also offer horseback riding, SCUBA, surf trips. Trips throughout Maine are available as well.
We offer 2, 3 , 4 and 7 week options. The pricing is approximately $1,300 per week.
Our seasonal staff comprises of approximately 125 men and women. Many of our staff refer their friends or colleagues. We also have many former campers return year after year as staff.
That we offer an enriching camp family. That our Camp provides children with the opportunity to connect with children and benefit from personal relationships. To reach our goals, we believe that we do not merely serve campers, but we serve their families. We strive to be partners with our parents as we help their children grow and thrive. As Camp Directors, we are keenly aware that when children go to camp, they make positive gains in self-reliance, independence, communication, and self-esteem. Unplugged from the constant electronic buzz, children find themselves at camp-making genuine connections with other children, rediscovering the fun in physical fitness, learning their own strengths, and finding their own voice.
It starts on the first day of the new season and it finishes when we are full.
I am available year round. The most ideal time to secure a space during priority enrollment time, which is after labor day and before the holiday season begins.
